WELCOME LETTER 2019 August 8th, 2019
Dear Families,
I hope that you have had a wonderful summer filled with friends and family. I certainly have! I am so thrilled to be returning to Deer Hill this fall to teach third grade! For those of you who do not know me, my name is Mrs. Maika Massari. I grew up in Nahant, Massachusetts which is a small peninsula on the north shore of Boston. I moved to Cohasset about five years ago with my husband, and our dog, Hobie. I now have a four- year old daughter. Her name is Elisabeth May-but we call her May. I love to spend time outside walking in the woods or on the beach. I also really enjoy traveling, reading, writing, and drawing. The most important thing you should know about me is that I love people, especially kids! I am passionate about teaching and sincerely look forward to meeting and working with all of you this school year.
Third grade is an exciting year! We work together to learn how to be the best students and people we can be. Our classroom is a community where we respect each individual and collaborate to achieve our goals. In all of the subjects you will work independently, and in groups, to solve problems. In math, we explore fractions, geometry, multiplication, addition, subtraction, and division. In reading, we investigate fiction and non-fiction. In writing, we brainstorm, draft, edit, and share stories, poems, and informational pieces. In science, we use the scientific method to study worms, the life cycle, dinosaurs and fossils, weather and magnets, and more. We also conduct experiments in the STEM lab! In social studies, we discover the European Explorers, the Pilgrims, the Native Americans, the Puritans, and the events leading up to the American Revolution. Third grade is a thrilling year of hard work and lots of learning!
In the next weeks before school begins, please think about the best memory you have from the summer. Write a poem, draw a picture, write a story, or make a collage that expresses your memory. We will share these during the first couple of weeks of school.
Parents, please email me with your email address, and with the best phone number to reach you. You can also send me any questions, or information you would like to share prior to the beginning of the school year. Thank you!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Maika Massari, M.Ed.
